Best, most stylistically interesting movie I’ve seen this year. Yeah, it’s full of homage (the Bullitt chase, in particular) and grabs a lot from other genres (Spaghetti westerns), but Nicolas Winding Refn’s direction stands out on its own. Imagine Le Samouraï with all the cues and cuts held for an extra beat and throw a synth pop soundtrack over that - and that gets you only three quarters of the way to what this is like.
